A sustainable city of the future would also be a smart city with smart people. With rapid urbanization in India, the cities need to prepare themselves for efficient public service delivery so as to make themselves livable and workable for all. A step towards this direction is the 100 Smart Cities initiative by the Government of India of which Nagpur is a key part. To make the City smarter, we need a better understanding of the as-is scenario and engage the intellectual minds and the common citizens to define the to-be scenario for implementation. This panel will deliberate upon,

  • What makes a city smarter?
  • What are the methods to assess a city's situation on a continuous basis?
  • What are the key benchmarks that we need to set for ourselves in the pursuit of making Nagpur smart?
  • What are the key elements of the city's roadmap to growth?
  • What are the short term and long term action that will help Nagpur become a smarter city?

The world around each one of us is transforming at a tremendous speed. Resources, skills and opportunities are nothing but distributed across boundaries. While we engage the available resources and develop solutions within the ecosystem of our city, we need to identify ways by which we can give and take cooperation from global cities to grow our city and country. This panel shall deliberate on the following key questions,

  • What are the key elements of international co-operation for a City?
  • What challenges are to be faced and addressed while establishing such co-operation?
  • What are the key areas of economic, academic and cultural cooperation for Nagpur as a city?
  • Want can we learn from the experiences of other world cities?
  • What is the role of administration, civil society, industry in establishing such international cooperation?
  • What are the key short and long term actions that Nagpur can take to benefit from international cooperation opportunities?

Talent is probably nurtured twice. Firstly, in educational institutions who play an important role in recognizing and building the young talent and secondly in the Industry which helps in training and offering them an opportunity to grow and flourish. Lately, Nagpur has become a Launchpad for talent - students study here and then leave it in search of better education and job opportunities. A global Nagpur needs to be a hub where people come to get their education, training and skills to provide services globally. The panel shall deliberate on the following,

  • What are the key elements of Education which need to be relooked into?
  • How can industry and institution interact to make students job-ready?
  • How can we transform our institutions into a Global Education Hub and become a goafter place?
  • What lessons are to be learnt from across the world in this area?
